A BRIEF HISTORY
- Year 2010
Since 2010, the Chair has been led by professor Mihail Gavriliuc, a disciple of academician D. Gherman. Both his scientific theses were devoted to medullary vascular pathology. Currently, the research studies of M. Gavriliuc and his disciples are dedicated to the development of new links in cerebral vascular pathology, namely the phenomenon of ischemic reconditioning, which could indicate new solutions in the treatment of cerebrovascular diseases.
In the last ten years, two Doctor Habilitated theses (V. Lisnic, O. Pascal) and three PhD theses (D. Ţiple, L. Coşciug, O. Odainic) have been defended.
- Year 1998
Between 1998-2010, the Department of Neurology was headed by professor Ion Moldovanu. He returned in 1995, after 11 years of scientific activity at the Neurology Clinic of I. M.Sechenov First Moscow Institute of Medicine, where he defended both his scientific theses under the leadership of Alexandr Vein, renowned scientist and academician. Another two years Ion Moldovanu dedicated to scientific research in the field of extrapyramidal pathology in Premontre (France), launching some new scientific topics in the local neurology area. Thus, systematic studies in the vegetative nervous system pathology, chronic pain and extrapyramidal disorders have been initiated.
- Year 1969
In 1969, professor B. Sharapov’s successor at the helm of Neurology Department became his student Diomid Gherman, who successfully continued his scientific research, pedagogical and medical activity. The results of his scientific research in the field of cerebral and medullary vascular disorders had particular resonance at that stage. Spinal pathology and medullary blood flow disorders have made the subject of study at the Department of Neurology for many years. Despite the fact that the clinical-morphological approach had its limitations, the subsequent emergence of neurovisualization methods (computed tomography, nuclear magnetic resonance) allowed the updating of this issue within a modern scientific framework.
- Year 1945
The Department of Neurology was founded in October 1945 by professor Boris Sharapov, an eminent representative of the Russian neurological science from St. Petersburg. He led the Department, with small interruptions, until 1969. Professor B. Sharapov laid the foundation of the didactic, clinical and scientific activity of the department, initiating a series of studies dedicated to the clinical and morphopathological manifestations of closed brain and spinal cord injuries. Many of his disciples worked as leading specialists, fronting various neurological clinics (professors P. Lecari in St. Petersburg, P. Areşev and A. Glaurov in Simferopol, I. Curaco in Odessa, A. Nacu and D. Gherman in Chisinau).
